CD Rework Grasbrook

Fresh design for a new urban neighborhood

Grasbrook is one of Hamburg's big future projects: a new urban district on the southern banks of the Elbe, surrounded by water, harbor atmosphere, and plenty of potential. It's still a work in progress, but the goal is to create a modern, sustainable, and very Hamburg-style neighborhood.

A few years ago, we came up with a temporary corporate design for Grasbrook, mainly for the competition and participation phase. Now it was time to take this first visual idea seriously and turn it into a complete, flexible, and future-ready brand identity.

The rework focused on the essentials: logo, typography, colors, and the overall design system. The goal was to make the brand clearer, more contemporary, and easier to use across all media — from the website and presentations to posters, covers, and everyday communication tools.

The new identity revolves around a simple, easy-to-recognize logo that ties the Grasbrook name to a strong visual symbol. A special version of the vignette works like a stamp — it's bold, simple, and great for large-scale applications.

Green became the brand's go-to color, paired with the blue tones that already matched Hamburg and HafenCity Hamburg GmbH's corporate design. Grasbrook's palette is fresh, open, and forward-looking, and it comes with a set of secondary colors to match.

For the typography, we chose Poppins — a geometric Google font that keeps things clear, accessible, and cost-efficient across all applications. Its circular, almost monolinear shapes fit perfectly with the clean and structured visual language of the new Grasbrook identity.

The end result is a corporate design that feels organized but not stiff, urban but not cold, and flexible enough to grow with the project over the coming years.
