Hamburg Metropolitan Region Touchtable

The North, right at your fingertips

How can you talk about a whole region — its people, ideas, landscapes, industries, research hubs, vacation spots, and future plans — without turning it into a very long brochure?

You put it on a table.

For the Hamburg Metropolitan Region, we designed an interactive touch table that makes Northern Germany more playful, accessible, and easy to explore. Visitors can explore the region, discover what connects its cities and communities, and understand why so many people live, work, research, invest — or simply take a deep breath — here.

The app was first shown at the Bürgerfest for the Day of German Unity in 2023. A lot of people had the chance to check out the North.

The design follows the existing corporate design of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region — with a few careful adjustments to make it work beautifully on a large interactive screen. We tweaked the color scheme, teamed up with Hamburg Sans as requested, laid out the content, designed the interface, and stitched everything together into a flexible multitouch experience based on the eyefactive system.

The result is a medium that feels more like an invitation than an information tool: intuitive, modular, expandable, and ready to travel.

It's a small stage, but it's for a large region.

And a pretty good reason to touch the table.
